So, I had a followup ultrasound on Monday...and it "looks like a girl" but the tech could not be sure! Dave and I are both pretty sure that it is indeed a girl...since two different ultrasound techs had the same conclusion, and we both have the same gut feeling. :) But, we'll have to wait until February to know for sure! Dave is secretly (actually not-so-secretly) happy that we don't have 100% certainty since this will likely prevent me from going on a crazy girly shopping spree! Who me?
I've been waiting to post this so I could include an ultrasound photo...but our scanner is not working, and our new printer/scanner combo won't arrive until Friday. If I get around to it, I'll update this post w/ photo this weekend!
Ok, here's the pic! What do you think? Girl or Boy?

This child amazes me...
Quick story...but it requires some background. About 3 weeks ago I took Calder to get a haircut at the mall. He had completely freaked out during his previous cut, so this time I bribed him with promises of a lollipop and a ride on the mall carousel - specifically, a ride on the carousel's zebra. The bribes worked - we got through the haircut with minimal whining and he was rewarded with a watermelon flavored lollipop and a ride on his beloved "zeeba".
Now, fast-forward 3 weeks. After work tonight, Dave came home for a quick dinner and then headed out for a haircut. After he left, Calder was finishing up his dinner and started to ask for Daddy. I told him that Daddy went to get his hair cut, and he would be back soon. Calder looked at me, nodded and went back to eating. About 10 minutes later he turns to me and says "Daddy ride zeeba!"
I love this boy.

Dress Up Time
One morning last week I suggested to Calder that we play dress-up. After very adamently refusing to wear a chicken outfit, he very happily donned his new engineer outfit and wore it around the house for most of the morning. He even kept the hat on for our late-morning trip to Costco!
I've been trying to come up with the perfect Halloween costume for him this year -- he loved this outfit so much, it just might be a winner!
Thanks to Kelly and Todd for a great birthday present!!!

Weekend Getaway
While Calder stayed home for a fun weekend with Nonna and Zaidy, Dave and I enjoyed a weekend getaway to Northern New Hampshire where our friends Sarah and Jay were married on Saturday. It was a quick trip, but we really enjoyed the beautiful scenery and wonderfully fresh air!
We did the 2-mile Flume Gorge hike, which was really cool. Lots of waterfalls and beautiful sites.
One of the covered bridges that we saw on our trip.
We also took a tram ride to the top of a mountain, where we did another short hike to an observation tower with gorgeous mountain-top views! It was a bit cloudy, but still really nice.
On the way back down the mountain, the tour guide pointed out that you can see the face from the buffalo nickel on this mountain side. If you look at the rock like a clock, the nose is at 9:00 and the mouth just below at 8:00. The eye slit is just above and to the right of the nose. See it?

And, of course, the very lovely bride and groom!

Big Milestone!
Calder hit a major milestone today -- he went pee-pee in the potty!!! Hurrah! He was very proud of himself and we all clapped and danced around in celebration. What a big boy!

It's a...
VERY MODEST BABY! That's right...we had our much anticipated ultrasound this afternoon, and they weren't able to determine the sex. Not only did the baby have his/her legs crossed, but he/she also had their hand down there blocking our view AND the umblical cord was in the way! The ultrasound tech said she thought it might be a girl, but she couldn't be sure. Soo...I guess it wasn't meant to be today, but we have one more chance. Since the position of the baby also prevented them from getting spine measurements, I will go back for one more ultrasound on 9/22. The good news is that the baby is growing as expected and looks healthy!

2-Year Stats
Calder had his 2-year checkup yesterday. He weighed in at a whopping 34.6 lbs and is 37 1/2 inches tall. I think there may have been a bit of measurement error on the height...but if it's right, that means he'll be about 6'3" as an adult! Watch out Uncle Sean, looks like you're going to have some competition!
Calder's vocabulary and imagination continue to grow each day. Here's a conversation he had in the car yesterday with his little Fisher Price lion and Scoop (a "Bob the Builder" construction vehicle):
Calder: "Let's play soccer in the basement!"
Calder: "Lion, do you like soccer?"
Lion: No response
Calder: "Scoop, do you like soccer?"
Scoop: No response
Calder: "Okay! Let's play soccer!"

Poopies come out!
Once you view this video, you'll see that I really had no other choice for the title of this post. Up until this weekend, Calder really hadn't shown any signs of being ready for potty training. He rarely wants to sit on the potty when we ask, so we don't push the issue. However, last night when I was putting him in his crib at bedtime, he looked at me and said "Poopies?" I thought he was telling me that he had just done the deed, so I checked his diaper and it was clean. Then he said "Mommy, poopies come out in diaper!" So, I asked him if he had to go, and he said yes, so I then asked him if he wanted to sit on the potty. He did, so off we went to the bathroom (with blue bear in tow) for a good 15 minute stint of sitting on the potty. For the record, no poopies ever came out, but he sure was being cute.

Busy Boy
Despite a bit of a cold and a mild fever, Calder managed to stay very busy this weekend...
He took his dog 'pup-pup' for a walk, "just like Lucky". He would even stop to pet him every once in a while.
He spent countless hours playing with his new easel -- a birthday present from Grandma!
For those who can't tell, he drew a couple of rocket ships and the start of a rainbow.
He admired the ducks (and boats and airplanes) in Old Town.
He giggled at Daddy's duck call. If you've never heard Dave's duck call -- you're missing out. It's quite impressive.
He stopped to visit a street vendor, who made him a guitar out of a balloon (he also found a lollipop hidden behind Calder's ear)! Alas, Calder managed to pop the balloon less than an hour later, but it was fun while it lasted.
He was also pleasantly surprised to get a close-up view of a fire truck!
